Giving Back

In 2012 the SOSD Staff began participating in The American Cancer Society Relay For Life event in Cumberland, RI.  The Relay team, Bosom Buddies was created to support Shannon’s best friend, Linda who had been recently diagnosed with breast cancer.  Now two years later, Linda is cancer free but the fight continues in honor of all those affected by this disease.

Each spring the studio has raised funds for The American Cancer Society through events like our ZUMBAthon, our pink butterflies, Bosom Buddies apparel sales, and online donations from friends and family. With the help of our SOSD family, the staff has raised nearly $10,000.00 for the American Cancer Society.  Team Bosom Buddies has donated over $50,000.00 and counting!

The SOSD Staff is passionate about this crusade because we have all witnessed the devastation cancer can cause.  We also believe that setting an example of giving back is important for our young dancers.  All of the teachers encourage our dancers to earn their own money and donate it to color a butterfly in honor of a love one.  Each spring we look forward to seeing our beautiful pink butterflies fill our school’s walls.  Reading the messages on these butterflies reminds us of the good work we are doing.

Nearly 100 dancers, parents, friends and former students came out to shake it for our 2^nd annual ZUMBAthon!  Proceeds exceeded $1200.00!  The studio walls were shaking with pink excitement!

We are getting super psyched to Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back at our Relay Event on June 6^th and 7^th!

You can make a difference.

Our beautiful butterflies are back!  The staff is once again participating in The American Cancer Society Relay for Life.  Honor a loved one and help support our cause by decorating a butterfly in the waiting room!   If you donate $5.00, be sure to fill out a raffle ticket to have a chance to win the gift basket.

This Saturday we are also hosting a ZUMBAthon.

Most likely, cancer has affected all of our lives in some way.  The American Cancer Society can help provide support and much needed services to all those impacted by this dreaded disease.
