Established in 1992, Shannon O'Brien School of Dance has quickly become one of the most well respected schools in New England.  SOSD dancers ahve received National and International recognition.  SOSD alumni are enjoying full college scholarships and careers in dance education, as well as performing on stage and screen.

The Perfect Place for a Dance Education

The Shannon O’Brien School of Dance was established in 1992 by Shannon O’Brien Marshall with the goal of providing quality dance education to children in the Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts area.  First located in a small building in Attleboro, the school quickly outgrew its original studio space.  By the fifth year of SOSD, the school was bursting at the seams.  The studio moved to a larger location in Seekonk in 1997 and then expanded to a second location, also in Seekonk, in 2003.
In 2006 Julie White, the school’s first student, and Shannon Marshall became official partners of SOSD.  Together with their talented staff and outstanding, loyal dance families, Shannon and Julie are raising the school to new heights.  In just under two decades, thousands of aspiring dancers have waltzed through the doors at Shannon O’Brien School of Dance.  Through the pursuit of excellence with staff education and commitment to the individual needs of each student, the school has grown to become respected locally, nationally and internationally.
SOSD boasts one of the top young dancers’ programs in New England with teachers who specialize in not only dance, but also the cognitive, social and physical development of young children.  Experienced, educated professionals are responsible for our Preschool and Kinderdance classes with a low student to teacher ratio to ensure that each child receives the attention they deserve.
Dancers from Shannon O’Brien School of Dance were named to the 2008 United States Dance Team.  Eleven dancers from our school traveled to The World Jazz Cup and World Modern Championships in Europe where they competed with the most elite dancers from around the globe.  SOSD proudly brought home 1 Silver Medal and 2 Bronze Medals for the United States of America.
The training at Shannon O’Brien School of Dance has provided the foundation necessary for many dancers presently working in the performing arts.  SOSD alumni have gone on to study at colleges and universities including Julliard in NYC.  SOSD Dancers are entering college dance programs on full talent scholarships, performing professionally throughout the USA and Europe, and teaching at the studio, high school, and college level.
Every Dancer at Shannon O’Brien School of Dance is given the opportunity to perform for a huge audience at our Annual Dance Extravaganza.  This Broadway caliber performance is topped off with the SOSD signature Finale starring the entire school.  SOSD hosts two sold out performances at the beautiful, spacious Robert’s Hall Auditorium at Rhode Island College.  The professional lighting, gorgeous costuming, artistic and exciting choreography add to the beauty of the dancers.  The exhilaration of being a part of such an event is a feeling that no child will forget.
Whether you are seeking a once a week class or an intensive program designed to set your child on a path to a professional career, our school is for you.  The Shannon O’Brien School of Dance believes in a dance education that inspires young people to be the best that they can be.  Through proper dance training your child will experience a physical activity that fosters dedication, teamwork, and discipline, as well as other fine qualities that will last long after their dance classes are over.
